Pecans are native to North America and over 80% of the world’s supply is produced here. There are over 1000 varieties of pecans. Some of the most popular varieties are Western Schleys, Pawnees, Wichitas, and Desirables.
It takes a pecan tree between 7 and 10 years to reach bearing maturity. The top three pecan producing states are Texas, New Mexico, and Georgia.
Over the last several decades pecans have become increasingly popular on an international level with Europe, China, and the Middle East importing significant amounts.
